After arriving at Hilo Airport, you will be driven through the town and see the famous and historically significant Banyan Tree Drive. The trees along this road were planted by religious leaders, political leaders, famous authors, movie stars, world adventurers and local Hawaiians dating back to 1933.

Keep your camera ready for your next stop - Rainbow Falls located at Wailuku River State Park. 80 feet tall and almost 100 feet wide, this waterfall flows over a natural lava cave into a large freshwater pool below, surrounded by dense tropical fauna.

Depending on the day of your tour and the season, you might pay a visit to the world famous Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory.

But, the highlight of this tour - and star attraction - is the world famous Kilauea Volcano, which has been steadily erupting since the 1980s. Your tour guide will entertain and educate with a fully narrated tour as you travel towards the Volcano National Park. Learn about the fascinating history of this location at the nearby Jaggar Museum. Other highlights include the the enormous Thurston Lava Tube, steam vents, Fern Tree Jungle, and the Kilauea Iki Crater.

Additional highlights on this tour include a visit to an orchid & anthurium nursery in Hilo and a hike over the 1980s lava flow that covered Kalapana and Kaimu Black Sand Beaches.

  • Hike to the eruption area (Park rangers will advise if lava is visible and closest viewing area. The walk may be 10 to 45 minutes, one-way, depending on location of flow.)

Lava viewing conditions change daily; therefore, viewing of active lava flow cannot be guaranteed. On some days the best approach involves hiking over rough, uneven, lava surfaces.

PLEASE NOTE: Passengers with asthma or other respiratory problems should consider a different tour to avoid potential health problems from exposure to fumes. All passengers are required to sign a release of liability form.  Sturdy, covered walking shoes are recommended.  You must provide the full names of each passenger on the Order Form.

Important Notes

  • All adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight.
  • Passengers who do not or cannot present an acceptable ID will have to provide information to the Transportation Security Officer performing Travel Document Checking duties in order to verify their identity. Passengers who are cleared through this process may be subject to additional screening. Passengers whose identity cannot be verified by TSA may not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint or onto an airplane.

Acceptable IDs include:

  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • DSH-designated enchanced driver's license
  • Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
  • A Native American Tribal Photo ID
  • An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)
  • A Foreign government-issued passport
  • Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and NOthern Affairs Canada (INAC card)
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. Those who do not should be carrying their passports while visiting the U.S.
